Mornington Peninsula day trip from Melbourne

The peninsula runs south-east from Melbourne between the bay and the ocean. It suits a day of a few unhurried stops rather than a long drive: hot springs, a gondola with a view over the bay, coastal villages and cellar doors are all within a short distance of each other.

South-east of Melbourne, roughly 70 to 100 kilometres depending on how far down you go.

Places you can include

Choose the ones you want. We build the day around your list, drive you to each and wait while you visit. Entry tickets are yours to book.

  • Peninsula Hot Springs

Bathing by session. Book your own entry; sessions can fill.

  • Arthurs Seat Eagle

Gondola to the summit lookout. Ticketed and weather-dependent.

  • Sorrento and Portsea

Coastal villages with front and back beaches.

  • Cape Schanck

Lighthouse and boardwalk on the ocean side.

  • Cellar doors

Several within a short distance. Tastings are paid at the venue.

Worth knowing before you book

  • The hot springs are booked by session and are the one stop worth reserving early. Send us the time you hold and we will build the day around it.
  • Arthurs Seat runs on the weather and can close at short notice, which is the operator's call rather than ours.
  • The bay side and the ocean side are different in character and about twenty minutes apart, so both fit comfortably in one day.

Who this suits: Couples and groups wanting a relaxed day with a few good stops. Also works well with children if you skip the cellar doors.
